Women Outward Bound to screen at the Artemis Women in Action Film Festival
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
April 4, 2016
The Artemis Women in Action Film Festival will screen Women Outward Bound, by Maxine W. Davis, documentary filmmaker, Sunday April 24, 2016 1:05-3:35 PM.
Fifty years ago girls were not allowed to participate in the US Outward Bound wilderness school. But that all changed in 1965 when a Minnesota Outward Bound class was opened to young women. At a time when girls should have been honing their housekeeping skills, 24 courageous young women took the challenge of a month of outdoor survival in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters and Quetico-Superior wilderness area.
Maxine W. Davis, director of Women Outward Bound, was one of those girls in 1965.
Backed with Kickstarter funding, grants from Women in Film & Television, the O’Shaughnessy Foundation, and individual supporters -- Maxine’s work will show at Ahrya Fine Arts Theater, Beverly Hills, CA Sunday, April 24, 2016, 1:35-3:35 as part of a double feature highlighting women in nature.
Following the showing, Maxine and another women from the original 1965 class will have Q & A.
Other festivals showing the film are: Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival (MSPIFF), Minneapolis, MN and The Julien Dubuque International Film Festival in Dubuque, IA.
